Summary
Parlier adopted its Active Transportation Study (Tactical Urbanism) so the city can finalize the Caltrans-funded tactical urbanism project that installed crosswalks, bike racks and bus-stop signage.
The Parlier City Council on Feb. 20 voted to accept the City of Parlier Active Transportation Study, Tactical Urbanism, allowing staff to finalize Caltrans-funded project closeout and submit the final invoice.
City engineer Javier said the tactical urbanism effort paired the city with the local school district to install painted crosswalks, bike racks, and bus-stop signs downtown. He described the effort as a low-cost, visible safety improvement and said Caltrans requested the council adopt the final report so the grant-funded work can be closed out.
Councilmembers expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the school district and for community participation; several members noted the treatments slowed traffic in targeted locations. Councilmember Juanita Molina and others who helped with on-street painting were thanked for their participation.
Councilmember Diego Garza moved to approve acceptance of the study; the motion was seconded and carried with four yes votes and one absence. Staff said they may seek new Caltrans funding in the future and would consider restarting the monthly technical-group meetings that supported the project.
With adoption, staff will submit the final report and invoice to Caltrans to complete project closeout.
