Pinetop Lakeside council approves 4-year election-services agreement with Navajo County

The Town of Pinetop Lakeside unanimously approved Resolution No. 25-1766, authorizing a four-year intergovernmental agreement with Navajo County for election services through Jan. 1, 2029.
Town Clerk Christie explained the division of responsibilities: "The town clerks are the election officials for the town. We do all of the postings, we send over the wording that these to go on the ballot, and we work with the town council or the candidates. We do the campaign finance. What we cannot do because we're not big enough to have the equipment ... the counties run them for them," she said, describing production, mailing and Election Day operations the county will provide.
Christie and the town attorney reviewed the draft IGA and reported they were satisfied with the outlined agreement. Councilor Heisler moved to adopt the resolution and the council then voted to approve the IGA.
Why it matters: Small towns often rely on county election infrastructure for voter registration, ballot preparation, mailing and election-day staffing. The agreement formalizes services and provides an administrative pathway for Pinetop Lakeside's upcoming elections.
What happens next: The town and county will proceed under the four-year agreement, with the town clerk coordinating ballot language and campaign finance filings and Navajo County providing equipment, ballot mailing and vote tabulation.
