Steven Erno, general manager of Sun City West recreation centers, told residents at the midyear update on Feb. 14 that staff will launch a strategic-planning process and start a monthly drop-in forum, “Talk With The Team,” to improve resident communication.
Erno said the monthly sessions will be “a casual... not gonna be a presentation” hour where residents can “come in... ask any questions of myself or any of the team members” and get information directly from staff. He said biweekly online GM reports are being published now and will be visually redesigned with infographics in coming months.
The GM described the strategic plan as a three-year roadmap that will precede a longer master plan: “The strategic plan is different from a master plan. A strategic plan is basically those the next 3 years or so of projects and initiatives that the board is wanting to accomplish.” He said consultants will issue an initial survey to the board and staff as the first phase.
Erno said the strategic plan will be a living document reviewed annually with the board to record accomplishments and reprioritize work. He and other staff said the master plan — a broader effort expected to include community engagement — would follow and could take six to eight months once a consultant is retained.
Residents also asked about community involvement and timelines. Erno said the strategic plan will be finalized in March and described the master plan as a separate, public-facing process: “The master plan... is the one that has a lot of... community involvement, the master group, where you're gonna have community meetings, you're gonna have surveys, you're gonna have different focus groups.”
The presentation closed with Erno inviting questions and restating that the new forums and refreshed GM reports are intended to reduce misinformation and improve transparency.
