Properties Committee hears FY 2025–26 budget updates; AED replacements, scoreboard order noted

The Sun City West Properties Committee reviewed updates to the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget at its Feb. 6 meeting, including several additions and deferrals that affect the recreation division’s capital and repair-and-replacement plans.
Staff reported three budget changes since January: removal of a softball electronic scoreboard ($70,000) from the draft budget because the vendor order is already being processed and payment is being prepared; deferral of Palm Ridge pool circulation pumps to a future year; and the addition of AED replacements across the community after the vendor clarified that units have a 10-year operational life. Staff said about 42 AED units are past 10 years and need replacing, at an estimated community cost in the $60,000 range; the expense is categorized as repair-and-replacement.
Staff presented overall figures for new capital and repair-and-replacement for recreation: new capital items tied to properties committee needs total roughly $190,000; repair-and-replacement for recreation divisions was presented as approximately $2,000,052.03 (dollars and cents per staff presentation), with an overall FY25–26 budget figure discussed during the committee presentation. Staff noted some items are routinely deferred when assets still have usable life; staff said about $1,137,000 of items were deferred in the current evaluation cycle.
Other new capital items described for properties committee purview included the Palm Ridge pool interior repainting (estimated $75,000, requiring licensed contractor and scaffolding), architectural documents and fees for potential clay and glass-enameling room expansions, and a $50,000 allowance for Beardsley mini-golf shade cantilevers. Staff said they have presented these items to Budget and Finance and to affected charter clubs and committees.
The committee did not record a formal vote on the budget figures at this meeting; staff will continue budget discussions in Budget and Finance meetings and at a Governing Board workshop.
