Fire Marshal Mike Simic briefed the board on local experience, recounting an e-bike battery that experienced saltwater intrusion during a hurricane and sparked a structure fire. He urged residents to use the device charger provided with the device, keep batteries unplugged when not at home, recycle swollen or damaged batteries properly and buy UL-listed products.
Vote and adoption The board executed the proclamation at the meeting in September 2025.
Ending County officials said the proclamation will be used as a focus for public education and outreach coordinated by County Fire Rescue and partners during Fire Prevention Week in October.
