At the Aug. 5 Bradford County Board of County Commissioners meeting, a proposal to reconsider prior board action to provide $7,500 to the Bradford Cowboys youth organization failed for lack of a second.
The item was introduced by a commissioner who said the Cowboys, a long-standing local nonprofit, had new unexpected expenses related to field rental fees and equipment insurance and that without county assistance “it would greatly negatively impact the ability to function in the community.” The speaker asked the board to reconsider funding allocated on July 17, 2025, to nonprofit agencies.
Board discussion noted that the board has been discussing consolidating recreation funding and that a $150,000 allocation for a full-time recreation position or consolidated recreation programming had been the subject of earlier workshops. Commissioners said the interlocal arrangements and a formal recreation board had not yet been finalized, and one commissioner said funds could be reallocated only after those structures were set up.
Commissioner Spooner made a motion to reconsider the recreation funding; the motion "failed for lack of a second," the chair said. No new funding was approved at the Aug. 5 meeting.
