The Port Washington common council voted Aug. 6 to grant a conditional use permit for Park Street Studio at 691 South Park Street, allowing recording operations and a limited live‑audience video recording component under conditions recommended by the plan commission and staff.
The plan commission and staff recommended approval with conditions tailored to the studio’s proposed live‑audience filming: no public performances or concerts; no more than four studio‑audience filming sessions per month; hours of operation by appointment only; compliance with all required fire and life‑safety codes; and a plan‑commission review 12 months after approval to assess operations.
Will Frang, owner of Park Street Studio, told the council the venue will host bands, singer‑songwriters and commercial recording clients and answered council questions about operations. City staff noted the plan commission had reviewed the application and recommended the conditions intended to limit noise, parking and public‑assembly impacts.
Fire, police and parking follow‑up: Council members asked about outstanding code issues and parking. The mayor and staff emphasized that meeting fire and life‑safety requirements and securing an approved parking plan were conditions of the permit and that the condition requiring a 12‑month plan commission review gave staff an enforcement mechanism if issues arise.
Vote: The council approved the conditional use permit by voice vote after a motion and second; the motion carried.
Ending: The studio may operate under the conditions set by the council; the plan commission will review compliance one year after approval.
