Summary
The village board approved a plan-commission recommendation permitting a property at 1845 West Shorewood Drive to construct a 192-square-foot storage shed where the code allows 150 square feet. The plan commission found the petition's lack of a basement and current garage storage needs justified the variance.

The village board voted Aug. 18, 2025, to approve a plan-commission recommendation granting a variation to allow a 192-square-foot storage shed at 1845 West Shorewood Drive, exceeding the local code maximum of 150 square feet.
Plan Commission Chairperson Chet Wani (presenting the petition) said the petitioners do not have a basement and are currently using the attached garage for storage. The commission held a public hearing Aug. 6, 2025, adopted findings and recommended approval. "The petition is seeking a variation to allow 192 square feet storage shed which exceeds the maximum allowance shed size of 150 square feet," the chairperson said.
Board action: A trustee moved to approve; the board called the roll and the motion carried (Aye votes recorded). The board chair noted the importance of petitioners appearing in person to answer questions and wished the petitioner well.
Why it matters: The approval allows a modest expansion of accessory structure size at the property; the plan commission and board cited the lack of basement storage and the petitioner's existing garage use in their findings.
Ending: The petitioner may proceed per the conditions of the approved variation and must comply with any related building and permit requirements.
