The Administration and Public Works Committee approved a single-source renewal for Cisco Smart Net support for 2025 for $61,004.77, and a council member abstained because of a disclosed conflict of interest.
Council member Ailes said he must abstain because of a financial disclosure: his wife previously worked for CDW and they own stock. Council member Kelly and others said they are concerned about the frequency of sole-source and single-source contracts appearing at this time of year.
Why it matters: the contract continues technical support for municipal Cisco equipment. Staff told the committee many of the sole- or single-source items on the agenda were renewals and appear together seasonally. The committee approved the Cisco renewal on a voice/roll call with one abstention.
Council members asked staff to include the reason for single-source or sole-source procurement in memos accompanying such items; staff said memos explain the reason and that many items are annual renewals.
The committee approved the contract renewal; the meeting record notes the amount as $61,004.77 and that the item was presented as a single-source renewal.
