A township supervisor told trustees on Aug. 25 that a vehicle drove through the cemetery fence and knocked over seven grave markers, and that the driver has insurance to cover damages.
The supervisor said a neighbor reported the incident and provided details outside of the township—s normal visual oversight. She told trustees the township will arrange repairs and that some stones are very old and may require different replacement methods; she said she will provide more information once repair details are defined. The supervisor also said she expects the cemetery department to manage any necessary bids for work.
The cemetery—s financial position was discussed earlier in the meeting during the audit presentation. Auditor Andrew Beasley reported the cemetery held $1,200,000 in net assets (an increase of $7,600 from the prior year) and $300,000 in private trusts; he said the cemetery—s net assets are restricted for cemetery operations. The audit also showed the cemetery finished the year under budget by $280,000.
Trustees asked whether compensation for the damaged stones would come from families or the township; the supervisor said the township will handle repairs and will provide more detail when available. No formal motion or procurement action was taken at the meeting; trustees did not vote on repair funding or contract awards during the session.
