Council approves resurfacing contract for three parking lots, including Fox Metro work

The City Council on Aug. 25 approved a $276,725.20 contract for resurfacing three city parking lots, including two city lots and a larger set of repairs at the Fox Metro facility that will be reimbursed to the city.
Ian Wade of the engineering division said the work bundles resurfacing of Parking Lot C at River Street, the customer service lot on McCoy Drive, and Fox Metro’s piggybacked resurfacing. Wade said seven bids were received; the apparent low bidder was Schrader Asphalt, a nonlocal vendor, but Geneva Construction invoked a local-bidder preference within a five-percent threshold and agreed to adopt the low bidder’s price so the contract will proceed with Geneva Construction. Wade said roughly two-thirds of the contract value is Fox Metro work and that the city’s share is just over $100,000 across the two city lots.
Council members asked about closures and timing; Wade said the city lots are off-street and should be completed in roughly a week each, while the Fox Metro work will take longer due to its spread across the site. Wade said dates had not been finalized but he expected work by late September or early October, and that crews could avoid a scheduled shred event on Sept. 13 if needed.
Alderman Bate moved approval and Alderman Jonathan Nunez seconded; the council approved the contract 5-0.
The contract was described as budgeted through separate decision packages for the two city lots; the Fox Metro portion will be reimbursed to the city.
