Sam Totokoro, the Dunkin’ franchisee, told the board a digital board would let staff remotely update pricing and avoid frequent manual changes during extreme weather. Planning staff said the proposed digital menu board is less than half the size of the existing menu board as viewed from the right of way and that the Design Commission unanimously recommended approval with standard conditions, including that the board automatically dim and be turned off when the business is closed. Trustee Bertucci, who made the motion, and other trustees noted the location’s lot configuration and absence of nearby homes made approval appropriate; several trustees asked staff to study whether the village’s ordinance limiting fully digital signs remains appropriate given wider adoption of such boards. The motion to prepare the ordinance and conditions passed on a unanimous vote.
