Veteran Honor Flight returning Sept. 27; local groups ask community to welcome home veterans

Frederick, speaking as a representative of the local U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club, said the mission flies veterans to Washington, D.C., then returns them to El Paso where groups including Fort Bliss, local police, fire, and other volunteer organizations have in the past greeted returning veterans with public welcomes. “Please bring out welcome home signs, American flags,” Frederick told the commission.
The organizer said the group typically receives veterans at El Paso between about 4 and 4:30 p.m., and the convoy normally returns to the local reception site — identified in the record as Patrons Hall — around 7 to 7:30 p.m. Frederick asked for community support to honor veterans who “probably did not get a good welcome home when they came back from Vietnam.”
The commission heard the request during the public-comment portion of the meeting; no formal action was taken.
