The City Council voted to accept a donation of the historic Munger Moss Motel sign located on U.S. Route 66 from the sign's owner, the Dells. Troy (staff member) told the council the owner signed the paperwork needed to transfer the sign to the city and said he was willing to pay for renovations. The city included renovation work in the 2026 budget, and staff said they hope to renovate the sign in time for the Route 66 anniversary, which staff said "kicks off on January 1."
During the exchange, councilmembers confirmed the sign will remain in its current location and staff noted they would work out details for the renovation and funding with the donor. The ordinance to accept the donation passed on first and second readings and was recorded as ordinance 71-58. Staff said the sign will add to the city's skyline and that they expect to begin visible work in the coming months.
