The Lebanon City Council voted unanimously to accept donation of the historic Munger Moss Motel sign on U.S. Route 66 and approved moving forward with renovations. The council adopted the ordinance accepting the sign donation after staff said the donor has signed paperwork and indicated willingness to help pay for renovations.
Why it matters: The sign is earmarked for renovation timed to the Route 66 centennial events beginning Jan. 1, and city officials said restoring the sign will contribute to the city’s Route 66 visibility and downtown streetscape.
City staff said they obtained the signed donation documents and will work through details of the renovation and any financial contribution from the donor. The ordinance accepting the donation passed on second reading after roll-call votes in favor; Council Bill 69-16 became Ordinance 71-58.
Councilmembers did not request additional substantive conditions during the meeting. Staff said more paperwork remains to complete the transfer and that renovation planning will proceed in the coming months with the goal of having visible progress before the centennial celebrations.
The council approved the ordinance by voice and roll-call process; no objections were recorded. The administration said the sign will remain at its current site and that the city and donor will finalize financial arrangements for renovation as part of the implementation process.
The council’s action transfers ownership of the sign to the city and enables staff to begin contracting and budgeting work tied to the sign’s restoration and maintenance.
