Council approves application to solid waste district for glass-recycling tubs

The Kirksville City Council approved a resolution expressing intent to seek funding through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Northeast Missouri Solid Waste Management District (Region C) to purchase replacement blue recycling tubs used in the citys glass recycling program. Deputy City Manager Rodney Sadler said the tubs are made of recycled-content plastic, are used for glass recycling pickup, and the citys supply had been exhausted. He estimated a total project cost of $12,000 including shipping and said the city would request $9,000 from the district with a local match of up to 25 percent (maximum $3,000). Staff recommended moving forward with the grant application; council members expressed support for continuing the glass-recycling program. The resolution authorizes the mayor and city manager to serve as representatives for the application process.
