The Kirksville City Council approved an ordinance authorizing replacement of standard green-and-white street signs with burgundy-background, white-letter signs at four intersections around the Northeast Regional Medical Center (NRMC) campus. City Manager Mary Maycomb explained previous council decisions permitting nonstandard sign colors for institutions such as Truman State University (purple signs) and A.T. Still University (blue signs). The proposed burgundy signs would match NRMCs marketing palette and would be placed at Fourth, Fifth and Sixth streets at Scott and Fourth and Pierce, Maycomb said. Amanda Selby, NRMCs director of marketing, addressed the council and thanked members for their consideration. Council members expressed support, viewing the change as a community-recognition and wayfinding tool. The ordinance (bill 2025-44) passed on first and second readings.
