The Cass County Board of Zoning Adjustments on Sept. 10 approved zoning variance ZV29 to allow placement of a new lagoon-style septic system at 18601 East 300 Seventh Street in Harrisonville, citing flood-plain constraints that limit where the lagoon can be sited. The board recorded three votes in favor and none opposed among members present.
Valerie, a staff member with the Cass County Codes and Zoning Department, told the board the property currently has a motor home and requires a new septic system. She said a significant portion of the parcel lies in flood plain, "so it kinda limits where the lagoon can be put. This will is conducive for lagoon so they're asking for a setback variance, to 60 foot to the prop property plan," Valerie said during the staff report.
The presiding official opened public comment on ZV29; no one spoke and the public comment period was closed. After brief discussion, the board voted to approve the variance. The meeting record does not list who moved or seconded the motion and does not record any conditions attached to the approval.
No agency approvals or downstream permitting requirements for septic systems were discussed on the record; the transcript does not specify whether the variance is contingent on county health department or state approvals. The board adjourned after handling ZV29 and other routine items.
