Park Board members received multiple project and maintenance updates on Aug. 4, including near-completion of a new pavilion, park-wide invasive-species work, restroom and roofing projects, and sign replacement discussions.
Nikki, parks staff, reported the Budweil Pavilion upgrade is nearly finished — railing is installed and the next step is concrete work — and that forestry contractors will be conducting invasive-species removal across multiple parks this fall. Nikki said chemical treatments have been applied on hillsides and will be followed by seeding and additional mechanical removal when conditions permit.
Valiant Park’s pavilion received new concrete and path work and the restroom is awaiting the final concrete pour before opening. Staff said GEFCO Roofing is the roofing contractor on order, and that aluminum wrapping and selected colors are on order.
Staff also said a vendor (Clarity), which supplied previous boulder signs, offered a package price to install matching boulder signs at Valiant, Westside, Budweil and Fabick Nature Preserve. Board members discussed aesthetics near Riverside and noted subdivision signage would remain unchanged.
Other operational notes: the YMCA indoor pool will close for an annual week for cleaning the week of Sept. 11 (the outdoor pool will remain open), and the Riverchase electronic sign suffered hail damage; staff has filed an insurance claim and the sign cabinet needs replacement, with aldermanic discussion planned for potential alternatives.
Discussion vs. decision: several items were progress reports; the board did not award new contracts for signs or roofing at this meeting. Staff will coordinate contractor scheduling for final concrete and roofing work and will bring signage options to the aldermen as appropriate.
