The Missouri Department of Conservation told Fenton officials it can help install a floating wetland in Westside Lake to reduce algae and improve habitat for stocked fish, and the department has asked the city to consider a 50/50 cost-share for the project.
Parks committee members heard the presentation at a meeting the committee recorded and recommended staff return the PowerPoint to the board once available. Committee members said they are awaiting a copy of the presentation so the board can review funding and schedule details; the Missouri Department of Conservation indicated its funding for the program would be released beginning in July.
Nikki, a city staff member, described the wetland concept as “create what they call a floating wetland in Westside Lake” and said the department estimated total costs “anywhere from around $8,000 to $10,000” with the city responsible for half. Committee discussion did not produce a formal motion; staff said they would forward the department’s PowerPoint and related materials to the board when available.
Committee members asked whether a motion was needed immediately; staff said the matter could wait for the board meeting. No final expenditure or contract was approved at the committee level.
