Personnel staff reported the city has received multiple applications for maintenance-worker openings since changing the Indeed posting to list pay based on qualifications rather than a fixed range. One promising candidate was offered a position after an interview this week. Alderman Hills said the department received about eight applications following the revised ad and that the city will continue to use qualifications-based offers while monitoring hiring progress.
A motion to forward the minimum-wage item to the board carried on a voice vote. Separately, the committee approved funding and a motion to hold the 2025 employee appreciation luncheon. On maintenance pay ranges, staff said they will continue recruiting under the current approach and return with recommendations later; aldermen cautioned against repeatedly delaying a decision but supported using current hiring momentum to fill vacancies.
