Sherwood police describe chaotic multi‑scene shooting; suspect arrested, officers uninjured

Sherwood police updated an advisory board on an incident in which a suspect fired at people and later engaged officers; the suspect was taken into custody and was charged with multiple counts. No officers or bystanders were struck.

According to the police briefing, the incident began when a vehicle associated with reported shots was identified entering Sherwood. Officers located the vehicle and, after an encounter that included gunfire at multiple locations, a pursuit ensued. During the incident, an officer’s patrol vehicle was struck and disabled when the suspect reversed into it; the department said the officer was not injured. A subsequent officer engaged the suspect and the suspect surrendered after returning to a vehicle sunroof; officers recovered evidence and casings at the scene.

The chief said the suspect had fired multiple rounds during the incident and was later indicted on 21 counts. Major Crimes and the local prosecutor’s office conducted scene work and review. The chief also described the operational challenges of managing information and public reporting in the immediate aftermath and said the department aims to improve timely, accurate public notifications.
