North Aurora approves purchase of dump plow truck and water-division pickup, waives bidding

On June 16, 2025, the North Aurora Village Board approved two vehicle purchases for public-works operations and the water division and agreed to waive formal bidding for both buys.

Brian, a village staff member who presented the items, said the public works department sought a one-ton dump plow truck to replace a 2009 Ford. Staff located three dealer-owned trucks already outfitted for snow removal and recommended purchasing a truck from Curry Motors for $110,706, below the village's $145,000 budget for the item. Brian said using a cooperative procurement contract would cost more and delay delivery by about a year due to supply-chain issues.

For the water division, Brian said an additional pickup truck was needed after staff increases. He said lead water operators can use a standard pickup because they supervise and work primarily from treatment plants; existing vehicles will be handed down to newer employees. Staff compared pricing from the National Auto Fleet Group cooperative and a local dealer, Gerald Ford, and recommended buying the Gerald Ford vehicle for $51,373.70, under the $65,000 budgeted amount.

Board members approved both purchases by roll call. The roll recorded affirmative votes from Trustee Christiansen, Trustee Curtis, Trustee Gaitley, Trustee Nejvesh and Trustee Salazar; both motions passed. The staff recommendation included waiving the bidding process for both buys because of the availability of suitably equipped vehicles and favorable pricing.

Staff said the 2009 Ford being replaced will be repurposed for use by the water division; no additional financing or long-term lease obligations were reported during the meeting.
