Walker Lecture Series donates $16,000 for district spring concerts; board accepts

The Concord School Board accepted a $16,000 donation from the Walker Lecture Series to support district spring concerts, performing arts coordinator Gabe Cohen told the board Sept. 8.
"They have graciously donated $16,000 to the school district for us to be able to put on our March concerts," Cohen said, adding that part of the donor’s bylaws requires performances the group supports to be free to the public. Cohen described how funds cover venue rentals, accompanists, transportation of instruments and districtwide dress rehearsals, including multi‑school concerts involving elementary through high school ensembles.
Given the size of the donation, the board required formal acceptance on the record. A motion to accept the Walker Lecture Series donation passed without opposition, and board members said they would send a thank‑you note to the organization.
Cohen told the board the funds will support several off‑site performances that the district stages at venues such as the Capitol Center and City Auditorium, and noted that the March district concerts bring together students from grades 5 through 12 for dress rehearsals and performances.
