Bellevue board reviews lead activity center locker-room renovation bid of $91,350

Bellevue Public Schools Board of Education members reviewed a bid for locker-room renovations at the district's Lead Activity Center and voted to approve the administration's recommendation to proceed with the project.

The recommendation centers on a low bid of $91,350 submitted on June 4 and aims to renovate the men's and women's locker rooms, including new flooring, shower fixtures, lighting, paint and composite bench materials, with construction expected to take up to 60 days starting about mid-July to limit program disruption.

The bid packet showed six submitted bids after nine contractors attended the site showing, and Snyder Construction delivered the apparent low bid. A district presenter told the board that project staff had initial concerns that Snyder's price and timeline were much lower and faster than others, but facilities staff member Ralph Gladbeck had previously worked with the contractor on city projects and spoke positively of the company's work. The presenter said Snyder attended the pre-bid meeting and subsequently confirmed verbally that it accepted an addendum specifying composite bench material.

Board members asked about the addendum and the competitiveness of Snyder's bid. The presenter said the addendum reflected a materials change (to a composite bench product) and noted that while one bidder did not mark the addendum on the form, the bidder was present at the pre-bid meeting and verbally acknowledged it. The administration estimated up to $25,000'$30,000 in additional support could come from the Bellevue Public Schools Foundation to reduce the district's share of the project cost, and said the project would not be funded from bond proceeds but from building/site funds.

During the meeting a motion to accept the administrative recommendation was made and the board voted in favor. Recorded verbal votes in the transcript show board members voting yes (Mister Davidson, Missus Wolford, Mister Getz/Getz, Miss Beckham, Missus McNamara and Mister Eby). No amendments to the motion were recorded. The presenter said the district plans to begin work mid-July and expects a maximum 60-day construction window so regular programming is not unduly interrupted.

District staff did not describe additional contingency funds or a contract signing date at the meeting; those details were not specified. The administration also said it would confirm the addendum acknowledgement in writing as part of contract documentation.
