Severance council renews intergovernmental agreement with Weld Re-4 for school resource officer; costs split 50/50

The Severance Town Council approved a resolution renewing the intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with Weld Re-4 for the town’s School Resource Officer (SRO) program at its August 26 meeting.
Town Manager Nick Wharton presented the item and said the document is the same IGA the council approved last year. “This is our annual resolution to approve and renew the IGA between the school district and the town of Severance for our school resource officer position,” Wharton said. He added it is a fifty–fifty contribution by the district and the town.
Why it matters: The SRO program places a law-enforcement officer in district schools to provide safety, build relationships with students and coordinate between the school district and the town police department. Approving the annual renewal maintains the existing arrangement for the coming year with no substantive contractual changes.
Council action: A council member moved to approve Resolution 2025-31R; another council member seconded. The roll-call vote recorded unanimous approval of the resolution.
Ending: Staff said the IGA was reviewed by the town’s new attorneys and the district and that no substantive changes were recommended. The program will continue under the existing cost-sharing arrangement.
