The Village of North Aurora Village Board approved waiving the competitive bid process for an elevator installation and awarded the contract to Schindler Elevator for $127,440.
Staff and the village’s facilities/quality committee (FQC) told the board that Otis Elevator and the village were unable to agree on contract terms after initial bidding. FQC recommended terminating negotiations with Otis and procuring an alternate vendor. According to staff, Schindler reached agreeable terms and provided a recommendation letter to proceed; staff said rebidding could add extra weeks to the overall construction schedule.
On that basis, staff recommended the board waive the bidding requirement for the elevator installation and approve the Schindler contract in the amount of $127,440. The board moved and seconded the action and then approved it in a roll-call vote.
Trustees recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried. The staff presentation noted a limited number of firms that install elevators and the potential schedule impacts of rebidding; no additional contract terms or contingencies were recorded on the public record at the meeting.
