Council hears AMM Enterprises review for water plant services after owner questioned on certifications

City staff presented a bimonthly review of services provided by AMM Enterprises at North Chicago’s water treatment plant during the July 21 Public Works Committee session. The memorandum and committee discussion covered progress made at the plant, operations oversight and an offer to take council members on a site tour.
Alderman Coleman asked whether AMM has certified water operators on staff. AMM’s owner, who identified himself as Miller during the meeting, replied, "I have 53 years of experience in public works," and later said, "I am not certified," when asked directly about operator certification. Staff and several aldermen stressed that experienced operators are present and said a scheduled site visit would allow members to see operations and meet supervisors.
Chief of staff and committee members praised improvements at the plant and encouraged aldermen to visit; staff said the mayor asked that the council schedule a tour in advance of the next regular chamber session. The committee closed without further action; members said a fuller, documented performance report on AMM will continue to be supplied on a bimonthly basis.
No formal procurement or contract change was made at the meeting; staff said Nearmap and other technology purchases would be funded through a DECO grant and that the AMM report is informational and part of ongoing oversight.
