North Aurora Authorizes WBK Engineering Agreement for Route 31 Road Diet Study

The Village of North Aurora Board of Trustees approved an engineering agreement with WBK Engineering at the May 19 meeting to study and, if approved, design a road-diet project on Route 31 from Mooseheart Road to Airport Road. The board authorized the agreement, which staff said covers two phases: data collection and public outreach (phase 1) and plan development, bidding and construction (phase 2). Phase 2 would require separate authorization once and if the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) approves moving forward.
Staff presented a WBK proposal for $94,750 to complete the phase-1 work, which includes traffic counts, turning-movement studies and public information meetings. The proposal will be submitted to IDOT to seek approval to proceed; only after IDOT approval would the village authorize phase 2 for design and construction.
Trustees voted in favor of entering the agreement; no no votes or abstentions were recorded in the roll call recorded on the item.
The vote authorizes the village to proceed with the technical study and outreach needed to request IDOT approval. The board did not approve any construction spending; phase 2 and construction would be authorized separately if and when IDOT permits the project to advance.
