The Northwell Village Board voted July 21 to award a parkway tree-trimming contract to Yellowstone Landscaping for $36,563, village officials said. The work covers the base bid area (Moose Lake Estates) with alternates available for Highlands and Willow Lakes.
Staff described tree trimming as the village's top citizen request and said the village budgeted $165,000 for trimming this year. "Tree trimming is the number 1 citizen request that is received by the village staff," a staff member said during the meeting.
Staff told the board it issued a request for proposals that 10 companies downloaded and from which the village received seven quotes; Yellowstone Landscaping was the lowest bidder on both the base bid and the alternates. The board moved, seconded and approved the contract; roll call votes were recorded as yes from Trustees Christiansen, Gaitley, Lowery and Nejvedge.
Board members and staff also discussed the village's parkway rotation. A trustee said the village started a new rotation last year and staff indicated the favorable pricing might allow the village to complete additional sections sooner. "We added a significant amount of money in the budget for tree trimming," a trustee said, and staff said they hope to complete sections 3 and 4 within two years.
No amendments to the contract or further conditions were recorded during the meeting.
