City planning updates: comp plan hearing, Great Rivers Greenway coordination and Safe Streets outreach

City planning priorities — including the comprehensive plan review, Great Rivers Greenway outreach and Safe Streets pilot work — were raised to the Webster Groves Business Development Commission as the planning commission prepares a public hearing and council deliberations.
Commissioners were told the planning commission will hold a public hearing on the comprehensive plan on Monday, Sept. 8, and that the city council is expected to schedule its own public hearing in early October. Staff encouraged business owners and residents to submit comments to the planning commission or attend the hearings; comments will be considered by the plan commission and later by council.
The commission also heard that Great Rivers Greenway (GRG) is holding an open house at the Benny Gordon Recreation Center and that GRG is coordinating timing with Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District work in Lorraine Davis Park to explore connectivity opportunities. Separately, Webster Groves’ Safe Streets for All grant team planned outreach and a demonstration program with an open house scheduled for Sept. 10 at the Benny Gordon Rec Center.
The city announced two staffing changes of relevance: David Fulkless has been hired as deputy city manager (formerly a city planner), and the city has also appointed a new planning director; commissioners said the hires reflect an emphasis on restoring capacity in planning as the city advances the comp plan and related projects.
No commission vote took place. Commissioners were encouraged to sign up for the city’s Friday updates and to attend the open houses and hearings to provide business perspectives.
