The Webster Groves Green Space Advisory Commission reviewed edits to a 'Leave Your Leaves' outreach piece on the city website and selected candidate videos to accompany the content, with the intent to publish updated materials before leaf season. Commissioners revised wording to emphasize voluntary, practical steps residents can take and to avoid language that would overstate outcomes.
Members said past printed flyers distributed in libraries and retail locations were quickly taken and that an online video plus a short, printable flyer would be useful. The commission narrowed several short online videos for consideration and asked staff to circulate the links and the edited website text so commissioners could provide final feedback within the week.
Commissioners discussed adding a pledge form similar to the city's existing No Mow April pledge — an online checklist residents can click to commit to one or more actions such as minimizing mowing for a month or avoiding pesticides — and asked staff to investigate whether the city’s web form capabilities can support a parallel pledge for leaf-leaving. Two local retail businesses (Mapop and Rolling Ridge) were contacted about selling inexpensive leaf-collection bags and both indicated positive interest.
The commission requested that staff proceed with the website change process (a city form is required) and that the communications liaison post the revised content and videos once commissioners approve the final edits. Commissioners set a short internal turnaround: they asked for the materials to be circulated for comment this week so the city website can be updated in time for residents to prepare for fall leaf management.
