The Village of Addison's water division received the Illinois Section American Water Works Association (ISAWWA) Bronze Water Ambassador award at the July 21 Village Board meeting, a recognition staff said reflects expanded public outreach and education efforts about water operations.
Carolyn Greaves, a trustee of the Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association, presented the award and praised Greater Addison staff for increasing social‑media outreach, offering plant tours to board members and improving communication about water‑system activities such as main breaks, hydrant flushing and service notifications.
Water division representatives said the program began about two years ago and involved coordinated work between the water division and community‑relations staff. They described posting operational updates, announcing flushing and main breaks, and inviting board members to tours as steps that supported the award. The division said its goal for the coming year is to achieve a silver level and then pursue gold.
Board members commended the water and communications staff for their work and noted that Addison is one of 27 utilities with the award. The presentation was ceremonial; no board action was required.
Staff thanked the communications department and other departments for their cooperation in outreach and said they will continue public‑education efforts to advance to higher award levels.
