Student councils from every school recognized; parent praises Lincoln teacher’s care

At the May 21 Addison School District 4 Board of Education meeting, student councils from schools across the district presented highlights of the year and the superintendent announced the winner of the district’s Great Shake contest.
Dr. Sutton introduced the Great Shake competition winner, Manny Bockwell, noting the contest tested soft skills such as public speaking and interaction. Student council officers and principals from Lake Park, Wesley, Ardmore, Fullerton, Indian Trail, Stone, Lincoln and Army Trail summarized fundraisers, spirit days, service projects and school traditions. Presentations described food drives, Valentines candy‑gram fundraisers, school stores, and spirit weeks; several schools cited fundraising for local charities and student recognition activities.
During public comment, Adrianna Mena, a parent, spoke specifically about Lincoln School and praised staff and a classroom teacher by name: “Her patience, dedication, love, and overall excellence to my son and all her other students has made a huge impact,” Mena said, adding the school’s staff had helped her child with a medical condition and that medical professionals were impressed with the district’s in‑school supports. Mena asked the board to publicly recognize more teachers across the district to encourage retention.
The presentations were followed by a brief recess to allow families to take photos. The student council presentations and the parent comment were part of the meeting’s public and recognition portion; no board action was required.
