The Village of Addison on July 21 adopted an ordinance amending Chapter 10, Article 10 of the Village Code to allow food trucks and mobile vending under a regulatory framework that includes registration, fees and operating limits.
The change creates a limited authorization for mobile food vendors so residents and businesses can use food trucks for private events and temporary operations while ensuring health and public-safety oversight.
At the committee meeting, a village staff member identified as Joe described the ordinance as a way to allow food trucks into Addison with controls: “we're pretty excited about this for, food trucks within Addison. It could help our businesses in town if they wanna if they're looking to expand. It could help our residents too if they wanna have something, maybe, for a celebration, a birthday party graduation.” Joe said the ordinance would include strict guidelines, a cap of 15 operations per year, registration fees, health department approvals and documentation requirements.
Trustees moved to waive second reading and adopted the ordinance on July 21 by roll call. Village staff said registered vendors must pay an annual fee, provide documentation of their operations, complete a background check and submit a photo of the vehicle. Once registered and approved, a vendor may operate in the Village; private hires (for example, residence-hosted graduation parties) were discussed as allowable under the registration rules.
The ordinance amends the village code; staff requested and the board approved waiver of second reading and adoption during the same meeting. The attorney read the ordinance into the record before the vote.
No dollar figures for fees or the detailed permit application were included in the meeting record; staff indicated the Health Department and Community Development would administer appropriate documentation and inspections.
The Village will publish application and registration details through Community Development and the Health Department as the new code provisions are implemented.
