Trustee Porter proposed that the village develop a promotion and programming plan for the recently upgraded ball field, recommending a ‘‘middle school day’’ during home football games and exploration of coed flag football to increase weekend use.
Porter said he has spoken with officials in Bartlett about the handover and insurance coverage for the facility and proposed forming a committee with a board representative and administration to develop promotional strategies. He suggested highlighting specific middle schools from the announcer’s booth during games, offering simple amenities such as hot dogs on special days, and investigating the logistics of a coed flag-football league to use the field on off-days.
Mayor and staff said they will discuss coordination with Bartlett and work with Porter on next steps. No formal motion or budget allocation was made at the Sept. 4 meeting; Porter said he would return with additional information to a future meeting.
