Gurnee approves annexation and rezoning for three park district parcels

The Village of Gurnee approved Ordinance 2025‑57 to annex three parcels (addresses referenced on the agenda) totaling about 6.8 acres and Ordinance 2025‑58 to amend the zoning map from Lake County agricultural/estate designations to the village’s public zoning (RP) for those parcels. Community Development staff said the parcels lie north of the aquatic center along Hunt Club Road, are surrounded by village property and that the annexation would consolidate the park district’s holdings within village limits. The memo noted the annexation had been initiated earlier by a departing staff member and was brought forward to complete that work. Greg Owens of the park district attended to answer questions. Trustee O'Brien moved to approve the annexation ordinance and Trustee Ross seconded; roll call recorded Balmes, Parkinson, Woodside, Ross, Garner and O’Brien as voting aye and the annexation passed 6‑0. The board then approved the rezoning ordinance on a separate motion by Trustee Balmes, seconded by Trustee Thorson, with the same 6‑0 roll call. Staff said the annexation resolves an enclave of county land surrounded by the village and aligns zoning of the park district property with existing park uses; no new development approvals were part of this action.
