The Northrop Village Board on Aug. 4 approved a resolution awarding a $20,000 TIF façade grant for the property at 137 North Lincoln Way, which staff described as an abandoned, dilapidated residential structure. The owner sought the maximum program amount after obtaining contractor quotes that exceeded $40,000.
Nathan, the presenting staff member, told the board the village’s TIF façade grant program permits assistance for demolition of blighted residential structures and that this property qualified under that program. "This property at 137 North Lincoln Way is an abandoned dilapidated house," Nathan said. He reported that multiple quotes for the required work all exceeded $40,000, so the owner applied for the program maximum of $20,000.
Trustees moved and seconded the resolution and approved it by roll call. Several trustees recorded affirmative votes during the roll call following the motion.
The grant award is for up to $20,000 under the village’s TIF façade program; Nathan said the owner provided multiple contractor quotes and requested the program maximum. The resolution authorizes staff to process the grant payment subject to program rules and verification of work and quotes.
The board did not detail a schedule for demolition or repairs at the meeting; staff indicated that standard TIF program requirements and verification of contractor billing would apply before funds are disbursed.
