She said school staff would like visits timed to classroom schedules and suggested adding board members to school communications so liaisons can attend assemblies, performances and family nights without disrupting instruction.
The board also discussed standing committees and programs: a bond oversight liaison will present a debrief at an upcoming meeting, a policy review group will vet incoming policy updates with administration before broader board discussion, and the district’s representation on the regional education service (NESD) budget committee remains a three‑year commitment. The board noted new and ongoing liaison assignments to programs such as MECP (early childhood), CTP (career and transition programs), and an emerging middle‑school task force created during bargaining.
The David Douglas Educational Foundation reported it plans a fundraising campaign to underwrite activity fees for high‑school students who cannot afford sports and extracurricular costs; the foundation said an initial target will be approximately $35,000 to seed the program and that it seeks board liaisons and volunteers for planning and outreach. Board members and staff encouraged calendar invites for events and asked staff to provide lists and calendar feeds so liaisons can better attend school activities without creating scheduling conflicts.
