Amber (staff member) updated the Planning Commission on the Hastings Creative District and the public art planning work that followed its certification. She said the district was certified last November by the Nebraska Arts Council and received a $10,000 grant at that time.
"We were certified as a creative district last November through the Nebraska Arts Council and received a $10,000 grant at that point in time," Amber said. She told the commission staff and collaborators have developed a logo and a public art plan, and that the Nebraska Arts Council recently opened a grant round for which the city intends to apply for up to $100,000. Amber said the public art plan is posted on the city’s Engage Hastings website at engage.cityofhastings/creative-district.
Amber also answered one commissioner question about a property along Burlington where a car wash has been proposed; she said the property owner had reached out for sign‑code information but staff had not seen a further development application.
No funding decision or commission vote occurred during the update; Amber presented the status of outreach and the upcoming grant application.
