At the Sept. 2 technical review meeting, a city staff speaker reported ongoing unhealthful conditions at 574 Condor Street and asked the council to give staff direction to abate or remove the conditions if outreach and services do not resolve the problem.
The staff member said multiple agencies are working the case and that animal control had removed about 40 rats: "...they caught about 40 rats already," the speaker said. The staff member reported the police department and animal control are involved; Clark County Social Services and aging and disability services are conducting outreach; and code enforcement is coordinating senior meals for the occupants because the property owner reportedly lacks income.
Staff told the council that if the outreach does not solve the public-health and nuisance issues, they will ask the council to authorize cleanup or abatement. The staff member said a staff request to add the item to the regular agenda would allow council to provide direction at the next meeting.
Why it matters: severe rodent infestation and unhealthful living conditions can pose public-health risks to occupants and neighbors and often require coordinated social‑service and code-enforcement responses.
What happens next: staff will place the item on the regular agenda and, if voluntary solutions fail, will return with a formal request for authority to abate, clean, or secure the property. No abatement action was taken during the Sept. 2 technical review meeting.
