Council narrowly approves $175,000 for Hastings Economic Development Corporation

The Hastings City Council approved a $175,000 funding agreement for the Hastings Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) after listening to a presentation from HEDC leadership about land assembly, marketing and workforce partnerships. Council approved the funding 5–3 following questions about affordability and priorities. HEDC described priorities including site preparation, environmental reviews, USDA BD0 zone certification work, targeted industry marketing and continued housing support tied to recent housing studies. HEDC’s presenter said the organization has leveraged city dollars with private and state funds to support housing and industrial projects and highlighted recent local investment numbers. “We have seen over $50 million being invested in housing projects that are coming to completion or getting started, over $500 million being invested in industry growth,” the speaker said.
