The superintendent reported to the Saint Bernard Parish School Board on Aug. 12 that the new school year opened smoothly and staff completed extensive summer training. The superintendent said the meeting took place on the district's third day of classes and praised administrators, teachers and support staff for a positive start. Officials also reminded the community that the district's annual Day of Reflection breakfast marking the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina will be held on Aug. 29.
