The Building Food Service Champion Committee on Aug. 19 recommended the board authorize the Child Nutrition Department to advertise six-month bids for meat, frozen items and canned dry goods for the spring 2026 session (Jan. 1–June 30, 2026), with funds to be derived from the Child Nutrition Program Fund. Committee members also recommended the department advertise a separate bid for “local beef,” which staff clarified would be defined as vendors located in the state of Louisiana rather than limited to Terrebonne Parish. Miss Monica noted the advertised bids are “just the normal bids for the spring session.” Miss Walters described the local-beef effort as an attempt “to try to support the local economy, figure out something we could purchase.” Staff said those vendors would bid through the district’s normal central auction system and would be required to deliver to the district warehouse under normal purchasing terms. The committee moved both recommendations for board approval; staff will proceed to advertise the solicitations and return contract award recommendations to the board per standard procurement procedures.
