Superintendent Miss Dimas told the board the district has placed a paraprofessional and a teacher in every kindergarten classroom and trained paraprofessionals as instructors in the "Once" reading intervention program. Dimas said instructors will provide 15-minute targeted interventions with kindergarten students during the school day, with coaches giving feedback to improve instructional practice. She said by October students will take small books home to read with families as part of the effort to raise third-grade reading proficiency. Dimas also encouraged parents and staff to use the district’s updated "report a problem" portal, which timestamps and routes issues to school principals and district supervisors for follow-up and documentation. Board members and administrators said the start of school has gone well, with relatively few complaints and quick administrative response to the issues that arose. Several board members thanked maintenance, transportation, project managers, and community volunteers for campus improvements and new security gate installations that require a code or office check-in. Board members described community volunteers and local contractors who have offered to beautify campuses and donate labor for flower beds and grounds work. The superintendent’s report closed with an invitation for board members to visit elementary classrooms and see the kindergarten interventions in action.
