USD 437 presents needs-assessment, shows MAP and Kansas-assessment data guiding school plans

At a recent USD 437 Board of Education meeting, a staff presenter described the district's needs-assessment and explained how Kansas assessment and MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) data were used to shape school-level implementation plans. "The goal of our continuous improvement system is to make it meaningful and impactful for student learning," the presenter said, explaining the district's focus on professional learning, standards-aligned assessments and PLC collaboration. The presenter told trustees an 80-page attachment with building-level plans and metrics was available for board review. Staff described two primary data sources used to craft plans: the annual Kansas assessment, which yields scale scores and four performance levels (with low/high breakdowns), and MAP, an ongoing assessment used to track growth. The presenter explained MAP's student-growth percentile metric: "If that number is 50, it means we are right at average with all of the other students across the country who've taken this assessment," and that scores around 50 "+/- 10" indicate average growth. Trustees asked for clarification about cohort reporting on MAP slides; the presenter confirmed the charts followed the same class from one year to the next (for example, second graders in 2024 becoming third graders in 2025). The presenter said district and building teams set six-month and one-year metrics and that plans are intended to be "simple and straightforward, but meaningful." No board action was taken; the material was provided for trustee review ahead of the next meeting.
