School board authorizes advertising bids to convert Albany cafeteria into classrooms

The Livingston Parish School Board on Aug. 20 authorized the superintendent to advertise for bids to renovate Albany Elementary School’s classroom facilities.
Monica Perez of Gasway Bankston Architects told the board the project will convert the existing cafeteria into a library, three classrooms and some offices using the existing infrastructure. "We are requesting authority to advertise for bids for the Albany Elementary School classroom renovation, where we're converting the existing cafeteria into a library and 3 classrooms and some offices," Perez said.
Board member Jeff Cox made the motion to grant advertising authority; the motion was seconded by Brad Harris and carried unanimously on a voice vote. No contract award or budget appropriation was requested at the meeting; the vote authorized the superintendent to begin the solicitation process.
Perez described the work as the second phase of a three-part plan for the site and said rising enrollment motivated the need for additional classrooms. The board did not discuss a project cost or construction timeline during the authorization vote.
The advertisement for bids is the action requested; staff will return to the board for contractor selection and any required funding approvals.
