Edgerton Elementary fourth-graders present 'Fourth Grade Ambassadors' program and gift to city

Fourth-grade students told the USD 231 board about a one-year-old ambassadors program that pairs older students with kindergarteners for arrival, lunch and dismissal assistance; students also presented artwork the school will donate to the City of Edgerton.
Students from Edgerton Elementary described the school’s one-year-old Fourth Grade Ambassadors program and presented artwork to the city.
‘‘My name is Brinley Thompson, and I am a fourth grader at Edgerton Elementary,’’ Brinley said. ‘‘As ambassadors, we get to welcome students, wave to parents, and help get students into school and out of school safely.’’
The program is open to all fourth graders and offers three roles: morning greeter for arrival, lunch helpers who assist kindergarteners with snacks and opening items, and dismissal assistants who help direct children in the car loop. School staff told the board the program aims to build leadership, responsibility, teamwork, school pride and connections between older and younger students.
Four students introduced themselves by name at the board meeting and the principal’s representative said the class produced a themed art project — drawings of important monuments and a local green-space image — that the school will gift to the City of Edgerton.
The presentation lasted a few minutes; technical multimedia planned to accompany the remarks did not play for the board. Students and staff took photographs at the meeting following their presentation.
