Stone Creek Elementary principal reports literacy, math and SEL priorities; recognizes staff service

Sandy Rusher, principal of Stone Creek Elementary, presented the school’s goals and programs and recognized staff for years of service.
Rusher said K-2 reading and math goals and a 3% assessment-growth target for grades 3–5 guided the staff’s professional learning time. She described weekly professional learning team meetings, expanded STEAM instruction, a high-dose tutoring option (three 35-minute sessions per week for participating students) and an SEL block after recess to address playground conflicts.
Rusher described a summer flooding incident that left parts of the building displaced; she said custodial and teaching staff worked extra hours and three classrooms remained displaced while final carpet and coping work were scheduled. “It is almost back to normal and ready to do its job for the year,” she said.
Rusher introduced staff recognized for their years of service and contributions, including Desert (10 years), Nathan (years of service and community organizing for events), Jeanette (head custodian), Erica Forrester, Stacy Canfield and Kristen Morris (recent hires and long-term service). The principal highlighted parent engagement, culinary students providing cookies at events and the building’s community partnerships.
