Board members said 20 students signed letters of intent at a recent signing event. Dr. Anderson and others explained the program structure: students will earn a high school diploma and an associate of applied science from Washburn Tech at no cost, complete paid apprenticeships with the district while in the program, and earn credentials that position them to be hired by the district after program completion. A district speaker said the cohort members "all had a very good idea of what level they wanted to teach."
Board members framed the program as both a student opportunity and a workforce strategy to recruit teachers locally; the district said participants can still take part in home-high-school activities while completing TCALC programs. The board asked staff to continue supporting CTE partnerships and monitor pipeline outcomes.
